Perforator Flap Reconstruction

Perforator flaps are the most advanced type of free flap. During this demanding and lengthy operation, the surgeon extracts the tiny blood vessels feeding the flap and reconnects them in the chest, thereby sparing the muscle altogether.

Fewer surgeons are qualified or experienced to do this exacting procedure. Perforator flaps are taken from the abdomen (Deep Inferior Epigastric Perforator or DIEP flap) or the buttock (Gluteal Artery Perforator or GAP flap).
